Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:2 KJV
Sometimes, it’s difficult to be prayerful and thankful at the same time. Most of the time, we pray for things with a sort of anxious, expectant and fearful heart.
‘Oh Lord, please help me with this… Oh gosh, please help!’
‘I pray that I will get this, or that things will turn out this way.’
Our prayers are often made because we want things to turn out well. Our petitions to God are those that reflect our needs and our wants.
But Colossians reminds us that our attitude towards prayer must be thanksgiving. In everything that we ask God for, we must do so with a thankful heart. We must first and foremost remember what He has done and given us. This way, our petitions to God will be done in faith, trusting that He will look after us.
Thanksgiving allows us to look back and realise how much He has given us. This allows our prayers to be one that revolves around His will and His plan.
